Encoding conversion benchmark
Info
- bin as language means a binary (13.5 KB JPEG image)
- js as language means JavaScript (ASCII-only), specifically 86.7 KB minified jQuery 3.1.1.
- js☃ is like js except there is a single ☃ character near the start of the input.
- Otherwise, decode means decoding the Wikipedia article for Mars (the planet) as HTML.
- Encode means encoding the body of the Wikipedia article for Mars (the planet) in plain text.
Note that this test isn’t the same as raw converter performance, because there is the overhead of JS bindings, which is very significant. I have seen 9.1 GB/s for English UTF-8 decode in a non-browser test harness without extra copying while this benchmark shows 1.3 GB/s on the same computer for the same converter implementation.
